Anyone can be a human trafficker – various men and women have their roles in human trafficking rings, from recruitment to exploitation; traffickers are often the persons that victims trust - relatives, even immediate family members, as well as people that victims have known for quite a while. On the other hand, victims can be exploited by the strangers that they met while looking for a job, an educational opportunity abroad, or in other town, marriage, etc. Human trafficking is sometimes operated as a "family business” in which each family member plays his/her role.
Because human trafficking is highly profitable, traffickers are willing to spend months to gain victims' trust, and they can pretend to be victims’ friend, boyfriend, etc. If they are recruiting through job offers, they may introduce the victim to a false employee who pretends to be happy with the job and work conditions.
Anybody can become a victim of human trafficking, regardless of their age, education, social status, nationality, etc.
Once freed from the trafficking ring, victims face numerous health consequences. Apart from gynecological problems experienced by victims of sexual exploitation, victims often experience severe chronic headaches, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, insomnia, consequences of malnutrition, etc. Due to the brutal violence experienced by trafficking survivors during exploitation, psychologists assess that at least twice as much time is required for their partial recovery. Without adequate support victims usually fail to recover completely from the trauma.
Victims are recruited through job offers, by lover boys, deceived by people they considered friends, sold directly by partners/family members, abducted.

Victims are usually freed by police. Sometimes they manage to escape or get help from a client. However, research shows that only 1 in 10 victims manage to get out of the trafficking ring.
